Where Erin Stands

Erin's Priorities For District 7

01

Strong Academics & Student Achievement

Every student deserves a strong academic foundation.

I will continue to prioritize literacy, mathematics, rigorous academic standards, and proven practices that improve learning in the classroom. During my first year on the State Board, I have supported increased focus and funding for K–8 literacy and numeracy and worked to advance the Board’s strategic goal of elevating student learning.

Every decision we make should come back to a fundamental question: will this help students learn and prepare them for what comes next?

02

Bringing More Voices to the Table

Strong education decisions are made by listening to the people closest to our students.

Parents have a critical voice, and teachers, school leaders, students, Board staff, and community members bring valuable experience and expertise to the table. During my first year, I have actively sought input from District 7 stakeholders while carefully considering research, data, and the expertise of those doing the work.

I will continue bringing different perspectives together while keeping student learning at the center of every decision.

03

Support Teachers

Great schools depend on great educators. Teachers deserve to be treated as professionals, supported in their work, and given more time to focus on teaching students.

As a member of the Board’s Law & Licensing Committee, I have worked on educator licensing, preparation, professional standards, and simplifying processes that affect Utah teachers. I also helped with a review of the processes used to investigate and address educator concerns, with a focus on making them fair, clear, and efficient for teachers, schools, and families.

I believe we can maintain high professional standards while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens and supporting the educators who serve our students every day.

04

Smarter Technology & Less Screen Dependence

Technology should support great teaching, not replace it.

During my time on the Board, I have supported discussions about age-appropriate technology, responsible AI use, student data privacy, and the appropriate role of technology in classrooms. I will continue asking whether technology improves student learning and supporting thoughtful guardrails that protect students while giving teachers the tools they need.

05

Fiscal Responsibility & Classroom Investment

Every education dollar should be used responsibly and with a clear purpose.

During my first year on the Board, I have participated in significant funding decisions, asked questions about proposed budget reductions, and worked to strengthen oversight and accountability. I will continue prioritizing investments that support student learning, effective teaching, and classrooms while asking whether programs are producing meaningful results.

Utah taxpayers deserve transparency and confidence that education funding is reaching students and making a measurable difference.

06

Meaningful Assessment & More Time for Learning

Assessment should provide useful information to parents and teachers without creating testing burdens that take valuable time away from teaching and learning.

On the Board, I have supported examining Utah’s assessment requirements to determine whether testing is duplicative, useful, and worth the investment of both taxpayer dollars and instructional time. I support measuring student achievement, but every assessment should have a clear purpose.

Our goal should be more time for teachers to teach and students to learn.
